There and Back Again

There and Back Again!

We were able to go on a mini furlough to Canada and the US in May and June. It was an unscheduled furlough but it timed out well with many of our missionaries being out of the country. The main goal was to spend time with Ryan’s family as his mom has been fighting cancer for the last year. It was a great time reconnecting with the Canada family and getting some good “grandparent” time with the girls. We also spent two weeks in Michigan reconnecting with our friends and churches as well as another two week in Arkansas spending time with Abigail’s family. While it was a quick trip through North America we are very grateful for time spent and for the generosity of so many to make this trip possible. We are deeply grateful for the whole team of people who stand behind us. This was a short trip and so to all the people we could not connect with, we are very sorry! We hope to be able to re-connect next time.

Back in the Philippines

We landed back in the Philippines at the beginning of July, and got right back into our groove of flying and life back in the hottest city in the Philippines. Our city is named: Tuguegarao which means “ Fire everyday”. Super thankful for air-conditioning in the chopper! We have already had multiple medical emergency flights since being back. We enjoy being able to do this and be the best part of someone’s hardest day. We also look forward to see how God can use these opportunities to connect more people with the work He is doing here in the Philippines.

Many of you know of a prayer request we had in coming back to the Philippines, that helicopter fuel would become available again. Since the Iran crisis started, the cost and availability of fuel became a significant issue. But praise the Lord, two weeks before we returned to the Philippines, Ryan was able to get an order of fuel drums delivered to the our hangar. Thanks for all of you that prayed specifically for this request.

Over the last 12 months, we have identified some learning disabilities in one of our daughters. Due to living in the Philippines, Abigail is homeschooling our two girls and these learning disabilities have been a significant challenge for teacher and student. Through much research and counsel, Abigail has decided to pursue training online which will allow to her better understand and teach children with learning challenges. The master’s level courses will be a heavy workload for the next 3 months. Please be praying for her that she would be able to absorb as much information and possible and that this tool would be a benefit to her and our girls. We are very thankful for the generosity of those who helped pay for this course.

The Rest of 2026

In the Philippines we have two helicopters, one in the north (where we are) and one in the south. Normally each region has its own pilot and the two programs function independently. But this coming August and for the rest of 2026 Ryan will be the only pilot here. So he will be routinely traveling back and forth between the northern and southern Philippines to continue flight service in both regions. We would appreciate prayer for Ryan (and our whole fam) as we manage the challenges of Ryan being gone often. Seems like every time Ryan travels is usually when something happens at home, power goes out, snakes show up in the back yard, water pipes break etc.

We very much enjoyed our time in Canada and the USA but we are glad to be back in our home and our routine. The girls knew there were two new kittens waiting for us when we got back which made saying goodbyes to family and friends just a little bit easier.
