de Roos Family Update

June 2021

We are THRILLED to share that Ryan’s entire helicopter training cost has been paid.  Thank you to everyone who gave generously and sacrificially to make this possible.  It has been a very busy year and we are so grateful for the preparation Ryan has received.

“Here I raise my Ebenezer.
Here by Thy great help I’ve come”

This lyric is from one of Abigail’s favorite hymns, “Come thou fount” by Robert Robinson. Ebenezer means stone of help.

In 1 Samuel 7, the prophet Samuel built an Ebenezer to help the Israelites remember that it was by God’s help that they were saved from the Philistines.

We as a family, went out and built our own Ebenezer. We want to remember that it is by God’s help that we have come this far.  This last year felt especially insurmountable.  It is ONLY through the work of God that we have come to this point.

Philippines Preparations

Abigail is learning how to drive a manual transmission.

These cars are more prevalent overseas and we thought learning here would be easier.

We also packed and sent a few boxes ahead of us.

It is remarkably cheap to send these boxes over on a cargo ship and it takes about 8 weeks for them to arrive.

We can get a lot in country but we know some special things will help us and especially the girls, feel more comfortable amidst all the culture shock and stress.

What’s Next?

We have submitted our information to file for a special exemption for our entry visas.

We are told this process can take 2-3 months but we are praying it goes quicker!  Once we receive the exemption, we will travel to the Philippines Embassy in Los Angeles to receive the actual visa. Then, we can book our tickets!!

We are hoping for mid-August, Lord willing.  When we arrive in country, we will spend 10 days in a quarantine- approved hotel before traveling to our new home in Luzon, Philippines.

Prayer

Praise:

Ryan’s helicopter training is completed and paid for.

Prayer

For the special exemption & visa paperwork to go smoothly and quickly.

Prayer

Wisdom to transition well and help our girls say hard goodbyes.
