The Chopper Turns 12 Years Old

For our helicopters, every 12 years or 2000 hours of flight time (whichever happens first), the whole helicopter is thoroughly inspected and most parts are replace with new ones.

This event happened for one of our helicopters here in the Philippines. Our team spent many months preparing for this large maintenance event, everything from shipping all the replacement parts from the USA, preparing special equipment, and coordinating meals for all of us pilots and mechanics involved in this long project.

At the end of March we repositioned our northern helicopter down to the southern Philippines where we spent the next 5 weeks going through this overhaul process. We are very grateful for our aviation team and our coworkers here in the Philippines as well as for God’s provision during this large project. At the end of all the maintenance, we flew the  helicopter 7 hours back to our hangar in the north. It is now back in service with another fresh 12 years of flying in support of church planting ministries.

Bible Dedication

Just before our helicopter rebuild, we were able to celebrate a Bible dedication in one of the villages here. It was a very exciting event celebrating many years of hard work and dedication of the missionaries translating God’s Word into a language that has had no Scripture before. More than 600 people came from all over to celebrate with this village. 20 helicopter flights brought in many special visitors back and forth. Shown below is the first believer in this church receiving the translated Bible for the first time.

Family

The last couple months we had a lot of time apart as a family. But we were able to be together for Lydia’s 5th birthday! Lydia is thoughtful, compassionate, and goofy. We thank God for the many spiritual conversations we have had with her recently.
Homeschooling is going well. Thanks to so many of you who have been praying for this specifically. Lydia is finishing Pre-K and Sydney is finishing 1st grade.

There was a large cultural celebration while we were staying in the southern Philippines. We enjoyed trying all the food and buying some of the indigenous jewelry and crafts.

It’s fascinating to watch our kids grow up in another culture. They are caught in the middle of being raised in an American home but in the Philippines. Things that still seem foreign to us are normal/everyday for them.

Field Conference

Every two years, all the missionaries from our organization in the Philippines get together for a conference. It’s a week of fun and fellowship as well as teaching from God’s Word. It was great to be with all our coworkers and have all the kids together. Having other English speaking peers to play with can be rare at times so we are thankful for these experiences.

Prayer Requests

Ryan’s Mom

We recently found out Ryan's mom (Kara) was diagnosed with cancer. Her chemo therapy starts on June 12th. Please be praying for her and for the family still at home in Canada, as well as us here in the Philippines. Events like these make being away from family even harder.

Relationships

That we would continue to be learners in this culture and be good stewards of the relationships that God has placed in our lives.

Safety

For safety with Ryan flying the helicopter. Pray for good decision making in stressful situations and wisdom as he manages our flight program here in the Northern Philippines.

Thank you for your prayer and partnership!
